The filming has officially begun on the long-awaited sequel to Danny Boyle’s cult classic, the 1996 adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel Trainspotting. The movie is slated to officially be released January 27, 2017. This option was completely off the table ten years ago. At that time Ewan McGregor was publicly furious with director Danny Boyle after he was slated to star in Boyle’s movie The Beach, only to be dropped for the more bankable actor Leonardo DiCaprio. But since their falling out, the two have come to be friends with McGregor stating in an interview, “It was an unfortunate situation, and it wasn’t handled well. I was very upset. But time has gone by, and we put to bed the bad feelings and all of that shit.”

All of the original characters are returning, as well as the original cast. But what can we come to expect of our favorite Edinburgh addicts, Begbie, Renton, Spud and Sick Boy? While the plot is very secretive as of yet, we have gotten some hints from Boyle who has revealed that our characters have found a “very innovative” new path within the porn industry. This second part, is based loosely on Welsh’s 2002 novel Porno, set 20 years after Trainspotting. Irvine Welsh has been strict with sticking to the original time line of the characters he has created.

Will this new film be about choosing clean living, and positive thinking as the teaser states? Knowing Welsh, probably not.
